Park Design

A Disconnection From Human Interaction

When designing my park, I intend to explore the concept of the ‘disconnection from human interaction’. I find that, with social media and technology today, people are living in a virtual world, instead of reality. In terms of my approach that drives the organization of my spatial composition, I have chosen to include domains and social activities at each corner of the park to engage people. These may and may not act as resting spots. The main idea behind my concept is to bring a sense of human interaction to the fore. This may be through social activities or even basically being around people, instead of being indoors living in a virtual world.

Furthermore, I have included a centre that is explicitly designed to bring people together. Yes, the idea of a park is to bring a community together, however, through my design of pathways, users are indeed guided towards domains that enhance social, face-to-face interaction. The paths that are converging into a central direction is a means of tackling the disconnection from human interaction. There are scattered domains at each corner of the park, and then there are paths that connect to one central location.
